Our summer adventure on Korcula island
It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with this beautiful island. Korcula is a real
gem – its bays and secluded beaches, vineyards, clear sea water, medieval old town
of Korcula and stunningly beautiful island Badija – it scored very high on my
“most beautiful islands in Croatia” list.
Korcula is an ideal destination for families and those in search of culture.
The island tends to get overcrowded in peak season, but June and September are
the perfect months to enjoy its beauties. You can tour the whole island within a week
discovering its charming villages, local wines and seafood, hidden beaches and bays.
And that’s exactly how I did it, together with my family and friends we explored the
island Korcula by car and on foot, we discovered nearby island Badija on a kayaking
day trip and had few adventures on our own, we did lots of snorkelling and explored
marine life in the Adriatic sea, we fed deers, we picked mussels and prepared them for
dinner, we enjoyed evening strolls through the old town Korcula and live music at the
promenade, we attended fishermen’s night at Lumbarda and tasted some simple delicious
local food, we experienced the island in an authentic way while preserving the nature.
Above all, we appreciated and enjoyed every single moment!
Korcula island is forested with oak and pine trees and bordered by rocky and
pebble beaches, while the Korcula town resembles Dubrovnik with its narrow
stone lanes and artisan shops. It is the place where the great explorer Marco Polo
was born. But it is also a place that creates memorable summers.
